National - Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and Senator Angus King (I-ME) have signed a letter to the Department of Labor expressing concerns about a proposed rule by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The letter highlights potential negative impacts on volunteer fire departments, noting that the OSHA rule would mandate new reports, training, equipment, and health services for these departments.
Colorado – Pinnacol Assurance released data indicating that the risk of accidents and injuries increases for workers on hotter days, along with guidance on managing these risks. According to Pinnacol’s claims data, workers from a variety of occupations face a 52% higher risk of injury when temperatures rise above 90 degrees.
Texas – The National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) submitted a proposed experience rating plan specific to Texas. This plan aims to enhance structure and format, eliminate ambiguities, and clarify state-specific exemptions. NCCI intends for the rule to be effective for policies starting on or after July 1, 2025. The Department of Insurance is accepting comments on the filing until October 21st and can be sent to chiefclerk@tdi.texas.gov.
Virginia – The National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) proposed a rate filing suggesting that the Virginia State Corporation Commission lower loss costs by 12% starting April 1. The filing also advises a 15.8% reduction in assigned risk market rates.
